Do you love eating steamed vegetables? I love steamed vegetables and Steamed Baby Bok Choy with Garlic Soy Sauce is one of my favorite. It's so simple to make, very quick and easy preparation. Anyone can enjoy this recipe.
Bok Choy or pak choi is classified as a cabbage. There's a lot of variety of Bok choy but for this recipe, we're going to use the Shanghai or baby bok choy, a small or miniaturized version of bok choy. A mature bok choy is big and has greener and thicker leaves. A baby bok choy is the younger smaller version. I love Bok choy because it is one of the popular green leafy-vegetables that contains very low calories but very rich source of many important vitamins such as Vitamin A, B-complex vitamins, carotenes, phyto-nutrients, minerals. Bok Choy provides about 38% of the recommended daily allowance levels of Vitamin K alone. Plus it is an excellent source of water soluble anti-oxidant, the vitamin C.
Steamed Baby Bok Choy with Garlic Soy Sauce Ingredients
6-7 heads baby bok choy, cut length wise to quarters
2-3 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 tsp of corn starch
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp of vegetable oil
1 tsp of sugar
optional fried shallots
Easy Steps
Steamed Baby Bok Choy with Garlic Soy Sauce
1. Cut Baby Bok Choy length-wise, quarter. Make sure you wash it thoroughly, making sure there's no more sand or dirt left on the stalks or heads.
2. Arrange baby Bok Choy into a steaming pot and steam it for about 5 minutes.
While Steaming Bok Choy, you can make the sauce.
3. Heat a small saute pan, add oil, add chopped garlic. Saute the garlic until they turn a light brown.
4. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 tsp of corn starch, 2 tbsp water, 1 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tsp of sugar...and add this sauce to the pan. Stir well. If the starch is too thick for you, you can add another tsp of water. Stir well.
When Bok Choy is ready
5. Take the vegetable out and place on a serving plate.
6-7 Pour or sprinkle the sauce.
8. (optional) sprinkle a little bit of fried shallots for garnish
Such a simple recipe, isn't it?
Sometimes I use ginger garlic purée and add some mushroom in with the sauce. You can add some twist to it, make it more tasty your way. Steamed Bok Choy is very healthy. Give it a try, if you haven't tried already.
